I piled it high with all of my throw pillows for the picture (which I finally ordered during my last days at my first job). During the first few months of living here, we painted the walls blue (Benjamin Moore Serenity), replaced the windows that were painted shut, installed 10' linen drapery panels (my biggest DIY to date), and added a lone side table (which we found on the side of the road (#keepinitreal). The next picture shows some progress:
The lovely, leaning Ikea lamp was slowly killing me. Jesse always managed to fall asleep with the light on, and I was constantly crawling over him, half-asleep, to turn it off. I knew we needed lamps on both sides of the bed, but it's a challenge to fit two nightstands that are big enough for table lamps in such a narrow nook. You can tell I've been thinking about this for awhile, but I finally pulled the trigger on a great pair of sconces.
I couldn't be happier with them. My original plan was to install them on the brick, but decided to go easy on myself and drill into the drywall instead.
After focusing all of my time, energy, and extra money on house projects during the first of the year, I really burned myself out and decided to take some time off from thinking about it. That changed last month when I had a dream about rearranging our room, and now I'm off and running again. I recently splurge on some new bedding during the Restoration Hardware bedding sale last month, but I'm still waiting for everything to arrive. Will post pictures soon.
The last two items on the list:
Matching nightstands (we do still love our free one, but I can't say no to symmetry)
An upholstered headboard (inspiration to come! I'm thinking of DIY-ing, but we'll see)
Almost exactly a year ago, I learned to ski for the first time while I was in Beaver Creek for a wedding. It was a lovely trip - we stayed with my best friend & her boyfriend - but I ended up messing up my knee during our final day there and missing the wedding. Womp womp. I had surgery and went through 8 months of physical therapy, and am proud to say I'm going skiing again this week. Bring on the mountains, puffy jackets, cozy fires, hot chocolate, cuddling, ski lodges and board games. I hope you have a great one!
Dark walls, brass accents, lots of art, pops of white and one bold color = perfection in my book. I'm hoping that my bathroom ends up looking at least 1/4 as chic as all of these spaces. Paint goes up today - wish me luck!
